You do not! My classes are open to all adults, and all levels or experience.
Currently the cost of a single class is $5. Some classes are grouped together (a six-week class, for example) with a show at the end of the cycle, in which case students are expected to pay up front for the whole cycle.
The purpose of offering these classes as a series is so students get used to playing with the same group, thus increasing camaraderie and leading to a more satisfying performance!
The classes currently take place in Arcata, California, at the Exit Theater. (Above the mattress store on the plaza.) The address is 890 G Street, above the mattress store on the plaza.
Most likely! I have a reoccurring show called Zara Plus One, featuring myself, along with a different one of my students each time. These shows often include a second half consisting of a set by the Real Sisterwives of Humboldt, an improv troupe composed of some of my students.
Sometimes these shows include a jam for the audience to participate in afterwards, and sometimes they do not. Feel free to reach out for up-to-date information!
If you've ever seen "Whose Line is it Anyway?", then you know what short-form improv is. It's a format that consists of a lot of short games with predetermined rules.
Long-form improv, however, usually consists of a collection of scenes. The scenes may or may not share the same characters or be interconnected thematically. The effect is like watching a play, except that just like the audience, the actors don't know what will happen next!
At improv with Zara, we primarily do long-form improv, do we like to warm up with short-form games.
